Junior Y Club

YMCA Manchester has a long established programme of activities with the aim of promoting health, fitness and sport for children and young people. The emphasis is on fun, participation and development through a range of activities. The current programme includes specialist sports sessions such as wrestling and judo, trampolining, after school activities and a Saturday Club.

Our sessions are run by a group of committed volunteers and qualified coaches.

Junior Y Club

Junior Y Club takes over the sports hall between 10.ooam and 12.oopm every Saturday and is open to children of all ages.  We offer football, badminton, tennis, hockey and table tennis for older children and soft play, a ball pool and arts and crafts for younger children.

Junior Judo takes place in the studio Saturday mornings 10.00am till 11.00am and is suitable for children aged 5 upwards.

Judo is a hand-to-hand combat class. In Japanese it means ‘The Gentle Way’ and is an ancient art of the Samurai warriors. Our junior judo sessions are specifically designed for children helping to develop coordination, strength, stamina,  balance and fitness.  Through safe practice children are able to learn self-defence, self- confidence and discipline whilst in a fun enviroment. Children and young people have the opportunity to compete for the Manchester YMCA Premier Judo Club regionally and nationally.

Freestyle Wrestling is an ideal sport for youngsters as it caters for their natural wish to “fight”. Our club provides a safe, clean and disciplined environment to channel this natural energy into a sport that has clear goals and rewards.  The sport provides the opportunity for learning and accepting discipline with the result of both strengthening of the body and the mind. Our Club has a tuition and practice programme designed to cater for the needs of the novice wrestler, those with intermediate skills, through to the more advanced wrestler. Wherever possible, junior members are encouraged to participate in regional, national and international events.

Junior wrestling classes take place on Saturday mornings 11.00am-12.45pm in the sports hall.
